Located on the west side of Houston, George Bush Park offers something for everyone. This 7,800-acre park hosts many recreational activities for free, including hiking and biking trails, soccer and baseball fields, and the American Shooting Centers rifle and pistol shooting range.

Hike & Bike Trails
George Bush Park boasts a large network of hiking and biking trails. The paved Cullen Park Hike and Bike Trail spans over 11.5 miles from the park’s entrance on Highland Knolls Drive to a crossing at Noble Road Trail South. The trail is suitable for hikers and bikers of all experience levels, although beginners should consider taking it in sections.
The paved trails are easy to walk on and offer very little elevation change. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trail. The park’s recreational amenities include ballfields, picnic areas, a shooting range, and playgrounds for kids.
The colossal 7,800-acre park in west Houston offers plenty of opportunities for exercise and relaxation. There are jogging trails, a paved bike trail, two soccer league fields, and six baseball fields as well as a dog park and a model airplane flying field.
Dog Park
If your pup loves to run around the backyard or romp through the neighborhood, you’ll love the wide open space of a dog park. Fortunately, Houston has plenty of options and these parks offer more than just a place for your pup to get some energy out.
One of the best is Danny Jackson Family Bark Park, located in the trendy Upper Kirby neighborhood. The elongated area along Westpark Drive features separate areas for small and large dogs, dog lakes, water fountains, and picnic tables. Playgrounds
George Bush Park Houston TX is one of the city’s largest parks and offers something for everyone. Visitors can relax beside a tranquil lake, jog through the urban forest of tall pines, kayak a freshwater bayou with glistening skyscrapers as a backdrop, or play with their children on a playground.
The park’s west side features sports fields, courts, and other recreational facilities. These include soccer and baseball fields, Millie Bush Dog Park, an American Shooting Center, and model aircraft flying fields.
The park also features a children’s playground with exciting equipment including a pyramid rope climber. There are also pavilions and picnic areas that are perfect for family outings. The park is a great place to see wild alligators during their mating season in April and May.
Events & Festivals
Named after the 41st president, George Bush Park is a 7,800-acre park in west Houston. The huge park sits within the Barker Reservoir and hosts jogging trails, soccer, and baseball fields, a shooting range, and model airplane flying fields, as well as pavilions, playgrounds, ponds, and more.
During the month of August, the park will host the Dia del Salvadoreno festival to celebrate the city’s Hispanic heritage. The festival will feature food, vendors, and concerts by a variety of popular Hispanic artists.
The Park is also home to the Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the George W. Bush Institute, and Cafe 43 – all of which offer unique spaces for weddings, receptions, parties, conferences, meetings, and other special events. The library’s Hall of State and Freedom Hall are both impressive rental venues.
Sports Facilities
George Bush Park is a massive 7,800-acre park that boasts a wide range of sports facilities. The park is situated entirely within the Barker Reservoir and features soccer and baseball fields, pavilions, playgrounds, a dog park, a model airplane flying field, and much more. Most of the facilities are located on Westheimer Parkway, which runs through the center of the park.
There is also a large T 103 Canal drainage canal that channels water from the park’s neighborhoods into Buffalo Bayou to its east. Alligators are regularly seen lazing along the banks of this canal. Although these gators appear to be docile, they are predatory and will attack any large animal that comes to the water’s edge or approaches the shoreline.
