Houston’s Newest Interactive Museum

After eight months of pandemic-induced stupor, the world is about to get a little brighter and more colorful. Houston’s newest interactive museum, Seismique, is here to transport wide-eyed visitors into an intergalactic playground with more than 40 unique galleries.

The 40,000-square-foot space features extra-terrestrials, artificial intelligence, immersive art and dazzling light displays meant to inspire a sense of wonder. The brainchild of Escape the Room principal and COO Steve Kopelman, the interactive experience has strict COVID-19 safety protocols in place. Click here for more info.

40 Galleries

A 40,000-square-foot technology-fueled art museum with 40 unique galleries is now open at 2306 Highway 6 South in West Houston. Featuring extraterrestrial beings, artificial intelligence, immersive experiences and gamification, Seismique is designed to ignite imagination, heighten curiosity and inspire wonder.

In addition to the many dazzling displays of light generated by nine million LEDs, color, sound and natural elements, each gallery is an experience unto itself! Unlike other similar interactive museums and experiences that offer guests a linear path through their facilities, Seismique lets visitors wander as they see fit.

One of the largest galleries is The Hub, a 70-foot spaceship with colorful walls and fog-filled bubbles. Another is Venus, a multi-dimensional playground hand-crocheted by famed Japanese artist Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam. And of course, there’s the Acid Rain room with its optical illusion where you walk through water without getting wet as eerily illuminated green water walls fall from the exterior circular structure.

40 Artists

Seismique Houston TX is a new 40,000-square-foot interactive museum. This technology-fueled experiential art museum features 40 unique galleries, each with its own awe-inspiring exhibit.

The venue features works from more than two dozen local and national artists, including many Texas-based. These are exhibited using advanced technological elements such as 111 projectors, holograms, augmented reality, light mapping and more.

Guests at Seismique are encouraged to become a part of the art by actively engaging with the installations, which include extraterrestrial worlds, playful yarn jungle gyms and forests of flashing lights. In addition to general tours, the museum also offers educational workshops for students from local schools across Houston looking for technology-driven learning opportunities in disciplines related to S.T.E.A.M.

The art museum’s principal and COO, Steve Kopelman, said in a Tuesday release that Seismique “will transport locals and visitors alike to an entirely new and unforeseen universe of creative inspiration and artistic manifestation”. Artists are asked to submit a concept that they envision for their proposed intergalactic or alien-themed artwork. A great place to also visit is Rick Rice Park.

40,000 Square Feet

Houston’s newest interactive museum is unlike any other in the world, spanning 40,000 square feet of art that stimulates imagination, heightens curiosity, and inspires wonder. Located in a former Bed Bath and Beyond space on the far west side of the city, Seismique will feature over 40 unique “galaxies” (rooms) complete with extra-terrestrial beings, artificial intelligence, immersive experiences, gamification, and dazzling displays of light, color, sound and natural elements.

The mind-bending experience also features 111 projectors, holograms, augmented reality, light mapping, motion tracking, and gamification, all of which are designed to entertain and inspire visitors. It is described as the art experience of tomorrow.

The 40,000 square feet of interactive art include 40 immersive galleries, or galaxies as the artists call them, that are created by a team of more than 40 local and national artists. One room, for instance, invites guests to control lights and music by combining computer vision with an array of infinity mirrors. Another features a landscape of colored globe lights that react to touch.
